PRACTICAL INFORMATION

WHAT IT IS?

In 2023, we will offer a unique support for TWO Belgian freestyle dancers. The grant will mainly support training and travel costs for one year. We want to offer a one-time opportunity to street dancers who NEED support to be able to develop themselves and their art ; who are looking for gaining more experience and knowledge ; who want to participate to international events with the objective to grow and challenge themselves and represent Belgium internationally.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

The scholarship value is more than 3.000 € per dancer.

We will be giving these dancers a boost by allowing them to follow high quality workshops, camps, battles ; to receive professional guidance from Freestyle Lab team ; and to enjoy a grant of €1500 to develop your talents and skills, travel abroad to events, and meet your artistic goals.

  • All Freestyle Lab workshops, mini bootcamps, classes & events in 2023.

In addition to this support, the two selected talents will receive an individual follow-up including personal advice, professional courses and a concrete artistic career plan/timeline, according to their artistic goals and ambitions.

CONDITIONS

  • Age: between 14 and 35 years old
  • Be based in Belgium (an official street address in Belgium is necessary)
  • Practice one of those styles : hip hop, house dance, krumping, popping, locking, or waacking.
  • NO dance training or whatever diploma is required.
  • Dance level must be above intermediary. Some knowledge and foundations in your style must be already acquired (even if not on a pro level) ; some experience in battles is a must.
  • We will appreciate your sharing on social media and help on promoting this. When there is an audition, we must be united and spread it for the community. Tag us, repost, likes, comments ,… are all a must.
  • Your motivation, personal vision and goals - how you want to achieve them are an important criterion of selection. We are looking for dancers who have high ambitions to represent Belgium internationally and make our culture live.

 

IMPORTANT: Application and participation to the scholarship is FREE OF CHARGE. You don’t need to pay anything; this project is there to support you.

HOW TO APPLY?

Send an email in French, English or Dutch, to info@freestylelab.be (email subject : bourse / scholarship). 

ALL information below should be included in your email :

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Address (must be in Belgium)
  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Dance style you want to practice / represent
  • How long have you been dancing

Then, either you send us a text or a video where you explain this :

  1. Introduction of yourself and motivation for participation
  2. How you want to use the scholarship for? (not only on financial aspects)
  3. What is your goal as a dancer / artist?

IMPORTANT DATES

Application can be sent between 16 October and 27 November 2022.
Preselection of 10 dancers by 04 December
Individual meeting or phone call with the 10 dancers to discuss personal goals & motivations, availabilities, etc.
Final selection of 2 dancers by 20 December
Public announcement of two scholarships early January
From January to December 2023, let’s get to work!
