Freestyle Lab is a project mixing culture, art, sports, and youth, that was founded by Anissa, herself a freestyle dancer for almost 10 years. In creating this association, she wanted to respond to the needs and lacks of the Belgian hip hop community: a lack of opportunities to develop and meet, and the ability to train, to get together, to exchange, to learn, to evolve and to make the culture alive.
Freestyle Lab is a nationally and internationally recognized association that brings together hundreds of dancers of all generations, styles and levels of dance, without any barriers.
a role which is translated mainly by the organization of its own events: battles, camps, workshops, jams, trainings, sessions, classes, coaching, etc. But also many events in collaboration (national qualifiers of international battles, festivals, ...).
Thanks to its large collective and to all the community that the association has gathered these past years, Freestyle Lab provides numerous services such as travelling freestyle performances, workshops and freestyle dance initiations, the organization of a tailor-made event, the sharing of our expertise for your events, and our promotional support towards the hip hop community. The association counts over 30 collaborations in which its services have been required and has always made sure to work with dancers and activists from the community.
Contributing to the development and professionalization of street dancers, and increasing the visibility of the Belgian hip hop scene to the general public and to the international scene.
We advocate the practice of freestyle. Freestyle means improvisation, in other words the first essence of dancing, coming way before the choreographic aspect. We don't dance in front of a mirror but in circles (cyphers), creating real exchanges and connections and allowing everyone to express themselves through movement. Dancing freely to the rhythm of the music helps to develop many qualities in the individual such as confidence, creativity and personality.
Through its events and activities, the association aims at highlighting the importance of culture in our society and, more specifically to promote hip hop culture for all its educational values. Hip hop is about respect, unity, knowledge, education, diversity, sharing, discovery, creativity, individuality, fun, ...
We allow young people to get out of their daily routine, to meet and exchange with different generations of dancers, and we encourage the public to come and appreciate the hip hop culture and energy as we do.
